Porsche Boxster and Mercedes SLK280

17 04 2008

This is my first post in this blog and in a nutshell, it’s all about pitting great cars against one another while I churn out my thoughts on men’s fashion and lifestyle. For beginners, I’m Italian and aside from teaching some adolescent kids in a University, I also spend lots of hours writing and drooling over the greatest invention of humanity: cars. Yes, I’m a big car fanatic needless to say and my first post will be about pitting two fantastic German cars that I certainly think are way above the competition right now. Before anything else, let me dissect both cars and tell you which one is better.

2008 Porsche Boxster

Price: USD 46,000

Horsepower: 245

The Boxster is a nasty convertible that seems like that it’s taken straight off a multi-million dollar Hollywood movie. It has a solid frame and its responsive steering would make driving for you a breeze once you get behind this car’s steering wheels. Apparently, the manufacturers from Stuttgart spent a lot of time tinkering with the Boxster’s road stability feature since they installed the PSM or Porsche Stability Management system on it. The PSM pretty much monitors what the driver is doing and puts it back in control. Furthermore, the car is equipped with eliminating bounce especially in tough terrains.

The external design of the Boxster is akin to having a sleek sports car that shows off class and impeccable craftsmanship at the same time. Aside from that, the design team has enhanced the roof of this convertible by putting a tonneau cover while its 17-inch wheels are surely eye-catching. The interior of the Boxster is all the more an evidence that it is indeed a masterpiece that comes out of the production line of Porsche. It has leather stitching and plastic composites while the seat was lowered and its roof is raised higher to create more room which past models didn’t have. Overall, the Boxster has enough creature comforts that can keep you entertained while giving you a sleek ride while not guzzling gasoline unlike other luxury sports car. When it comes to the price, the boxster is cheap compared to the Cayman and 911 which are both from Porsche.

Mercedes SLK280 Roadster

Price: USD 45,000

Horsepower: 228

SLK stands for sporty, light and short and the German automaker Mercedes is pretty much successful in meeting those standards. The first look at the Roadster makes me want to drive it as soon as I can and if I can describe its design in just one word, it has to be exquisite. Its elongated hood, wedged outline, crouched rear-end and raked-windshield are not only for aesthetic purposes but for functionality as well. Its top which is retractable makes it both a coupe and convertible depending on your mood and by just clicking a button. In short, it’s a versatile car that anyone car appreciate.

There is a little bit of downside with regard to the interior because if you’re over six feet tall you have to be quite flexible in order to fit inside the Roadster. On the other hand, this car has excellent interior features and creature comforts that are worth every centavo that you’ll spend for this car. When it comes to the price, both the Roadster and Boxer don’t much have difference although I would rather opt for the Roadster since it’s basically cheaper.

The Verdict

Both the Boxster and Roadster have fantastic performance and interior features although the Roadster’s appeal to me is its dual capacity to be both a coupe and convertible at the same time. The fact is, it takes a lot of skill and craftsmanship to pull that off so I would choose the Mercedes SLK280 Roadster in this one.
