Two giant auto makers from Bavaria go head-to-head in this SUV competition. Let’s admit it, all drivers want big space in their cars even if gas prices are skyrocketing and it is especially important when you want to go into long trips. The SUV was essentially created for this purpose and this post is all about comparing two of the best manufacturers of this car type -BMW and Audi. The BMW 535xi Sports Wagon has been a hit in Europe for quite sometime while the Audi A6 Avant does not lag behind that much either. So here we go, let’s choose between two exquisitely-designed German SUVs and let’s see which one is better.
Audi A6 Avant
Price: 49,000 USD
Despite of its size, the A6 Avant can accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 7.3 seconds and that’s faster than some mid-sized sedans out there. On the other hand, I would still say that this car is still amazing speed-wise as it can reach up to 130 mph. Meanwhile when you focus on the Avant’s exterior you would find that the car is both sophisticated and stylish. Furthermore, it’s far from being a head-turner but it has a solid and flawless appeal that every German car has.
When you go inside the Avant, it has an interior that features wood and aluminum while it has enough warmth inside to make you feel very comfortable. On the other hand, the best thing about the Avant is that it has enough room for your cargoes and people. This is extremely important considering that an SUV is meant for long and often arduous trips. However, the sound system/entertainment features of this car aren’t very impressive although its upside is that it’s excellent in whatever driving condition you’re into.
Overall, the car is a little bit expensive but everything about it is functional. If you want your SUV to command some attention then the Audi A6 Avant is a great choice.
BMW 535xi Sports Wagon
Price: 54000
The 535xi has a massive 3.0 liter engine which is easily one hell of a gas-eating machine no doubt. However, the 535xi has a huge lead over the Avant when it comes to acceleration because it can easily cover 60 miles in merely 5.8 seconds. Aside from that, the 3.0 liter engine of the 535xi is faster than the earlier mentioned car because its top speed is pegged around 150 mph. Those numbers are pretty impressive for a mammoth-sized SUV of this proportion.
On a different note, the 535xi has defied my expectations when it comes to its exterior design. The solid lines and cuts are surely that of a BMW car and when you talk about BMW you’re dealing with nothing but the finest.
The interior of this car is slightly smaller compared to the Avant and moreover, the details are not as exquisite to that of the latter. Aside from that, it doesn’t have likeable multimedia artillery which also happens to be the Avant’s Achilles heel.
Overall, I have to concede that the Avant doesn’t perform as well as the 535xi although admittedly you will be able to save several thousand bucks when you purchase the former. So I would give the nod to the Avant because of its price and its size.
