Jeep Commander and the Hummer H2

29 05 2008

Every man wants a rough and tough looking automobile that embodies his masculinity. That’s the reason why two American vehicles jumped into the idea and thus the emergence of the Jeep Commander and the Hummer H2. These vehicles are massive and spacious which are great for adventure-driving. If you’re the type who doesn’t like the rigidity and predictability of urban life then it’ll be a toss up between the Jeep Commander and the Hummer H2.

Both of these goliath automobiles have loads of craftsmanship in them so let me take a deeper look at what they can really offer on the table.

The Jeep Commander Overland 4×4

Price: 41000 USD

At almost 5000 pounds one might wonder where the Overland 4×4 gets its push and clearly its A 3.7 liter six-cylinder engine is the one that drives this behemoth on rough and smooth terrains while dishing out as much as 330 horsepower. On the downside, the Overland 4×4 is not particularly strong for the automobile that it purports to be, so there are questions when it comes to the maximum load that it can really handle.

Meanwhile, the exterior of the Overland 4×4 is typical of every jeep design. It has a box-shaped exterior while straight lines complement its rough appearance. Going inside the cabin is a totally different experience, since it allows taller people a lot of mobility once they’re inside already. Unlike most jeeps out there that do not have the personality to speak of about their interior, the Overland 4×4 boasts of Walnut wood and leather that can be found all around.

The multimedia artillery of the Overland 4X4 is decent enough although it’s far from jaw-dropping. The media system features wireless headphones and navigation with a back-up camera to boot. The automobile also has creature comforts that cannot be taken for granted and that include an efficient climate control system. Overall, the Jeep Commander Overland 4×4 isn’t too expensive or too cheap either. When it comes to its drivability, the vehicle is pretty balanced in all sorts of terrain which I thought is pretty impressive. The vehicle however is a voracious gas consumer and that’s something that you might want to think about before purchasing this road machine.

Hummer H2

Price: 56000 USD

The H2 is something that you won’t miss on the road not only because of its sheer size but its fantastic power as well. With an engine that is almost built for a sports car, the H2 has a 6.2 liter power-generator that can launch the H2 to 60 mph in merely 7.8 seconds. The H2 is pretty impressive considering its 8200 pound bulk that it carries and when it comes to its exterior design, the H2 is an imposing presence on the road. Any enthusiast can appreciate its solid lines and tough curves that complement the excellent performance that it has. The Hummer H2’s interior is now made of aluminum that makes it both tough and light.

Meanwhile, just like its counterpart the Overland 4×4, the Hummer H2 has a space that would let you have a lot of mobility even if you’re tall and heavy. In fact, the H2 is big enough to fit seven people inside all at the same time. The automobile also has comfort creature features such as heating and cooling system, Bose speakers and the standard CD/DVD player.

Overall, the H2 is 15000 dollars more expensive than the Overland 4×4 and the sad thing is that it doesn’t offer that much in terms of the features. In fact, the H2 is even worse in fuel efficiency because of its 6.2 liter engine.
