Dodge Caliber SRT4 and the Chevrolet HHR SS

5 06 2008

The Dodge Caliber SRT4 and the Chevrolet HHR SS are not supercars nor are they sports cars either. These automobiles may not be the fastest or most powerful cars right now but for sure either of these can make you drool and the chance to be behind the steering wheel can be very inviting. The fact is, the average Joe wants a Veyron but does he really need a car that costs almost two million bucks? That’s where the SRT 4 and the HHR S come to play, they’re both performance-based vehicles and they are meant for the everyday use without costing that much. Let’s take a look at both cars so we help you which of them to choose when you decide to finally buy.

Dodge Caliber SRT4

Price: 23000 USD

The SRT 4 has a 2.4 liter turbocharged engine that can launch it from 0-60 mph in just about 6.0 seconds. Without a doubt, that is a decent number for a car that is not meant for the race tracks. Additionally, the car can wander up to 155 mph as its maximum speed although when you intend to bring your kids with you, that number is out of the equation. Basically, the performance of the SRT 4 isn’t that promising but considering its price, this car is already a bargain.

On a different note, the SRT 4 has mild features and some solid lines when you check out its exterior design. The fact is this car did not pretend at all when it comes to its design and for me, that’s a great thing. The downside of this car is its interior that I thought was clearly dull and boring. There’s really not much you can here see except for the bolstered seats. With respect to the car’s price, I though that at 23 grand this one is pretty affordable and with that being said, a lot of people will find the SRT 4 quite enticing. Overall, this car is not something that you can put alongside the best cars out there but that’s alright. I still think that the SRT 4 has enough features that can attract enough people to dip their fingers in buying this.

Chevrolet HHR SS

Price: 25000

The HHR SS boasts of a 2.0 liter turbocharged engine and that is enough to propel this machine from 0-60 mph in only 6.3 seconds. The speed of this Chevrolet model is comparable to its Dodge counterpart that is pegged at around 155 mph. The great thing about the HHR SS is its power and at 260 horsepower, this automobile has enough to carry some extra cargo that you might want to bring. The exterior of this car is fine but I do think that its look will suffer in a couple of years. The thing is, great cars are timeless not only in terms of performance but also in design and the latter is something that the makers have to work on.

The interior of the HHR SS is what surprised me because I was expecting a rather drab and bland presentation. Fortunately, there is enough space for several people and aside from that, great features made the interior of the car better than its Dodge counterpart.

The multimedia artillery of this car is above-average and the sound system’s audio controls are found on the steering wheel. Overall, the HHRR SS is a bit more expensive than the SRT 4 but I will give my vote to the former because of its better drivability and performance on the road.
