2008 Lamborghini Reventon

29 08 2008

Lamborghini Reventón is the most extreme and the essence of the marque: just 20 examples of a design masterpiece

Obviously a Lamborghini, but nothing quite like it. A super car without equals: the Lamborghini Reventón is a road vehicle with an extreme specification and, at the same time, a limited edition masterpiece – a coherent style, angular with sharp lines, inspired by the very latest aeronautics.

With just 20 produced, each 1 Million Euro (without taxes) Lamborghini Reventón is a symbol of extreme exclusivity, yet still offering the extraordinary performance that makes the Reventón so unrivalled: under the completely autonomous design, the Reventón possesses the entire technical and dynamic capability of the twelve cylinder Lamborghini.

At autopartswarehouse.com
, Lamborghini prides itself on being the extraordinary manufacturer of extreme super sports cars without compromise. Sensuality and provocation characterise every Lamborghini, with an aggressively innovative style. ‘However, the Reventón is the most extreme of all, a true automotive superlative. Our designers at the Lamborghini Style Centre took the technical base of the Murciélago LP640 and compressed and intensified its DNA, its genetic code,’ affirms Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A.

Classic Car Watch: 1936 Delahaye 135 Figoni et Falaschi Torpedo Cabriolet

28 08 2008

Joseph Figoni has done a masterful job as the chief designer of the Talbot T150 Teardrop but that didn’t end there of course. Back in the 30’s Figoni also did 11 of the Torpedo Cabriolet that featured the best two-paint scheme that has been ever seen during that decade. Joseph Figoni was a visionary and when he worked for Delahaye to produce a unique car, he did it and finishing it with flying colors. The first thing that you’ll notice on this car is its torpedo-shaped frame, hence the name and without a doubt, the inimitable design garnered a lot of praises when it was initially launched . For sure, it’s going to be hard to find automobiles such as this nowadays so let me give you some detailed information about the Torpedo Cabriolet.

Description

The Torpedo Cabriolet features a lot of flowing lines that emphasize the different sections of the car. This car has bulges and massive contours that also didn’t impede with its speed and aerodynamics. Moreover, the Torpedo Cabriolet has a dash that runs along its sides while ending in massive wheel skirts. It also has completely enclosed wire wheels, lights that are positioned at the far ends, and a distinct rear that looks like tails. Overall, the Torpedo Cabriolet has eye-popping features that can still impress even up to now.

Interior

The interior of the Torpedo Cabriolet may not be as gorgeous as what modern cars can offer but it’s nonetheless classy and even cozy. The Torpedo Cabriolet’s interior features an expensive amount of woodwork and a dashboard that has the word “art” written all over it. Additionally, you can find a soft-top that is located behind the two seats and honestly, I like the cabin space and the comfort that its interior offers.

The Performance

You can’t expect a massive V8 engine from this car although it has decent speed and power that can rival modern cars. The Torpedo Cabriolet has the legendary Water Cooled Inline-6 engine that is capable of spawning 115 horsepower and a maximum speed that can reach 100 mph. The fact is only the Alfa Romeo 2900, Duesenberg Model J, and Bugatti Type 57SC could compete against this Delahaye model and with kind of company, this car is pretty good.

History

The Delahaye company started way back in 1894 by the Frenchman named Emile Delahaye. From 1910-1940, the Delahayes were the most beautiful cars ever built and some of the best designers were Figoni et Falaschi, Chapron, and Letourner et Merchand. On a different note, the Torpedo Cabriolet was first introduced in the 1936 Paris Show using the Type 135 chassis. After the show, the said car was launched and it immediately won several high-profile races.

However, the war pretty much affected the sales of Delahaye cars thereby causing fluctuations when it comes to its profits and future production. The great thing about the Delahaye brand was that it continued to manufacture cars that are even better than German cars. Needless to say, it was a huge morale booster considering that the Germans occupied France with little opposition.

Eventually, the Delahaye brand was sold to Hotchkiss after the war and that signaled the end of its car production. After the takeover, the Delahaye name was dropped and it took several decades before the Torpedo Cabriolet surfaced again after years of obscurity. Only a few pieces of this car remained, nevertheless the few surviving ones brought back memories of the Delahaye brand’s dominance in the automotive industry and the unique designs that it introduced.

iPhone Applications.

28 08 2008

My friend and I at autopartswarehouse.com really love the iPhone.

There are several applications located on the Home screen: Text (SMS messaging), Calendar, Photos, Camera, YouTube, Stocks, Maps (Google Maps), Weather, Clock, Calculator, Notes, Settings, and iTunes (store). Four other applications, docked at the base of the screen, delineate the iPhone’s main purposes: Phone, Mail, Safari, and iPod.

The YouTube application streams videos over Wi-Fi, 2G, or 3G after encoding them using the open H.264 codec, to which YouTube has converted about 10,000 videos. As a result, the YouTube application on iPhone can currently view only a certain selection of videos from the site.

At WWDC 2007 on June 11, 2007 Apple announced that the iPhone will support third-party “applications” via the Safari web browser that share the look and feel of the iPhone interface. On October 17, 2007, Steve Jobs, in an open letter posted to Apple’s “Hot News” weblog, announced that a software development kit (SDK) would be made available to third-party developers in February 2008. Due to security concerns and Jobs’ praise of Nokia’s digital signature system, it was suggested that Apple would adopt a similar method.

The SDK will also allow application development for the iPod touch. The iPhone SDK was officially announced on March 6, 2008, at the Apple Town Hall facility. The SDK will allow developers to develop native applications for the iPhone and iPod touch, as well as test them in an “iPhone simulator”. However, loading an application onto the devices is only possible after paying a Apple Developer Connection membership fee. Developers are free to set any price for their applications to be distributed through the App Store, of which they will receive a 70 percent share. Developers can also opt to release the application for free and will not pay any costs to release or distribute the application beyond the membership fee. The SDK was made available immediately, while the launch of applications had to wait until the firmware update which was released on July 11, 2008. This update is free for iPhone users and there is a charge for iPod touch owners.

Many third-party Safari “applications” and un-signed native applications are also available. The ability to install native applications onto the iPhone outside of the App Store will not be supported by Apple. Such native applications could be broken by any software update, but Apple has stated it will not design software updates specifically to break native applications other than applications that perform SIM unlocking.

NITRO Experience.

27 08 2008

The Dodge Nitro is a mid-size SUV from the Dodge division of Chrysler LLC. Launched for the 2007 model year at the Chicago Auto Show, the Nitro shares its platform with the Jeep Liberty. It is assembled at the Toledo North Assembly Plant in Toledo, Ohio. This Jeep facility is part of a complex including the Toledo South Assembly Plant, home to the Jeep Wrangler since the 1940s. The Nitro went into production in August 2006 and went on sale in September. The Nitro is also Dodge’s first mid-size SUV since the Raider was discontinued in 1990.

It is priced at US$19,885. It is one of the first modern Dodge-branded cars on sale in Europe since its introduction in early 2007. All Nitros are accessible with rear-wheel drive; part-time four-wheel drive is available as an option. The top-line Nitro R/T with all-wheel drive sells for $27,630. It was Dodge’s entry-level SUV until the 2009 model year, when the larger, car-based Dodge Journey crossover SUV arrived to be priced below the Nitro.

Dodge is touting the car’s “Load ‘N Go” sliding cargo floor as a main selling feature. Alike to a system offered on the Saab 9-5 station wagon, the floor can be extended through the rear hatch by 18 in (457 mm) to ease loading.

One more purported quality of the car is its SUV/hot rod styling blend, complete with unmistakably pronounced fenders.

The Nitro has been named one of Consumer Reports’ eleven worst cars for 2008, as was its sister, the Jeep Liberty.

Smoking KILLS.

26 08 2008

At autopartswarehouse.com we try not to smoke to have a good health. And did you know that Cigarettes and more specifically tobacco smoke are full of chemicals and poisons. As you discovered in our chemicals in cigarettes section tobacco smoke contains over 4,000 chemicals, many of which make smoking harmful.

Effects of Tobacco Smoke

· Smoking KILLS

· Every year hundreds of thousands of people around the world die from diseases caused by smoking.

· One in two lifetime smokers will die from their habit. Half of these deaths will occur in middle age.

· Tobacco smoke also contributes to a number of cancers.

· The mixture of nicotine and carbon monoxide in each cigarette you smoke temporarily increases your heart rate and blood pressure, straining your heart and blood vessels.

· This can cause heart attacks and stroke. It slows your blood flow, cutting off oxygen to your feet and hands. Some smokers end up having their limbs
amputated
.

· Tar coats your lungs like soot in a chimney and causes cancer. A 20-a-day smoker breathes in up to a full cup (210 g) of tar in a year.

· Changing to low-tar cigarettes does not help because smokers usually take deeper puffs and hold the smoke in for longer, dragging the tar deeper into their lungs.

· Carbon monoxide robs your muscles, brain and body tissue of oxygen, making your whole body and especially your heart work harder. Over time, your airways swell up and let less air into your lungs.

· Smoking causes disease and is a slow way to die. The strain put on your body by smoking often causes years of suffering. Emphysema is an illness that slowly rots your lungs. People with emphysema often get bronchitis again and again, and suffer lung and heart failure.

· Lung cancer from smoking is caused by the tar in tobacco smoke. Men who smoke are ten times more likely to die from lung cancer than non-smokers.

· Heart disease and strokes are also more common among smokers than non-smokers.

· Smoking causes fat deposits to narrow and block blood vessels which lead to heart attack.

· Smoking causes around one in five deaths from heart disease.

· In younger people, three out of four deaths from heart disease are due to smoking.

Classic Car Watch: 1935 Mercedes-Benz 540K Spezial Roadster

26 08 2008

Everybody loves a Mercedes because of its exceptional quality, ride comfort, and not to mention rich history. The Germans have been doing a fantastic job when it comes to their cars for such a long time. Without a doubt, it’s nearly impossible to mention the automotive industry without German innovation and precision and part of the reason is Mercedes Benz’s continuous success in creating the best automobiles possible. The said manufacturer has been around for a while and back in the 30’s, it produced a classic car called the 1935 Mercedes Benz 540K Spezial Roadster. The Spezial Roadster paved the way for other supercars in the future and after more than 70 years, this car managed to survive unscathed.

History

The 1935 Mercedes-Benz 540K Spezial Roadster was first showcased at the Paris Motor Show in 1936 and during that time, it already attracted a lot of attention. The thing about the Spezial Roadster is that it was built to meet the needs of the clients and it was none other than the legendary Karrosserie Sindelfingen who oversaw the production of its first chassis called the 500. The Spezial Roadster was one of the best two-seaters before WWII started and just like every car that was at the top of its game; it had traits that were completely its own like a prominent hood, sweeping fenders, recessed grill, exceptional external exhaust pipes, raked windshield, and a very long body.

Performance

The Spezial Roadster has a M24 Supercharged Inline-8 engine and it can manage a top speed of 100 mph. This car may not be as fast as the supercars of today but for sure this was the real thing during its time. One impressive feature of the Spezial Roadster is that can manage to produce as much as 180 horsepower and that is something that was unheard of during its era. However, the Spezial Roadster isn’t too good when it comes to accelerating because it’ll take you 16.0 seconds just to reach 60 miles when you use this car.

The Spezial Roadster after 1935

The Spezial Roadster was initially styled by Hermann Ahrens and he made an astonishing job of putting everything inside a 17-foot long engine that can accommodate two passengers at the same time. Gustav Hohr made the necessary adjustment to the chassis a couple of years later while Hans Nibel worked on its engine.

Eventually, the Spezial Roadster had its engine expanded while increasing its power to 180 horsepower. As the engine improved, so did the car’s speed and after the enhancement, the Spezial Roadster can go as fast as 180 kph. The great thing about this new Spezial Roadster is that can alter its power from 115-180 by stepping on the pedal and that kind of technology was phenomenal during its time. Aside from that, the Spezial Roadster with the 540 chassis had a four-wheel suspension, while being even longer than it predecessor. Also, this Spezial Roadster has a longer wheelbase that elongated the hood that afforded more space for a bigger radiator.

Records show that there were 400 Spezial Roadster that were manufactured although as few as 26 were completed. Because of its vintage look and excellent condition, the Spezial Roadster can cost as much as 10 million dollars.

Overall, the Spezial Roadster can still manage to make a lot of people take a second-look at it. It still has an excellent design and it is still fast enough to compete with some of the best sports cars today.

SOUL to your ride.

23 08 2008

Another Kia’s concept car that I love is the Kia Soul, I have seen this at autopartswarehouse.com.

Kia has also confirmed that the new Kia Soul model, which will be offered exclusively as a five-door hatchback with front-wheel drive, will have an overall length of 4,105 mm, and a 2,550 mm wheelbase. Height will be 1,610 mm and width 1,785mm – excluding door mirrors.

Looking ahead to the British International Motor Show which opens next week, Peter Schreyer, Kia´s Chief Design Officer, commented, “Reaction from the media and public to the three Kia Soul concept cars first unveiled at the Geneva Show in March and soon to be shown in London, has been overpoweringly positive.

“The Kia Soul concept cars are so intimately connected to the new Kia Soul production car, that everybody can see this new model will challenge conventions and appeal especially to the young and young-at-heart – whatever their age,” added Schreyer.

The three concept cars to be displayed in London -, Kia Soul Diva and Kia Soul Searcher – were created by Kia´s European design team, led by Gregory Guillaume, under the guidance of Peter Schreyer. They were developed from the original car designed jointly by Kia´s California and Korea design studios and unveiled in 2006 at the Detroit Motor Show.

Anticipating the World Premiere of the Kia Soul production model on 2 October at the 2008 Paris Motor Show, Gregory Guillaume observed, “Because the all-new Kia Soul is not a replacement for an existing vehicle and is destined to play a unique role within the Kia global product line-up, it can be a bit of a rebel! The Kia Soul defies classification, and its design will hearten customers to form an emotional bond with this exciting new car.”

KEE is the KEY to your ride.

21 08 2008

Unbolt your eyes on the very un-Kia-like Kee concept that made its world premier at the Frankfurt show.

Can you believe Kia’s concept car, the Kia Kee? Because as we all know Kia haven’t manufactured a car which is a head turner, right? Kia has finally revealed its Kee concept I have seen some of Kee’s photos at autopartswarehouse.com. Its body paint and body kits were really awesome you can’t even think that it is manufactured by Kia.

The vehicle follows the styling cues set forth by Kia’s ex cee’d cabrio concept car both were designed by the ex- Audi design chief, Peter Schreyer and is distinguished by its broad stance and low profile.

The Kee uses 2+2 seating arrangement and is 169.3 inches long. According to Automotive News, power comes from 2.0 liter version of Kia’s next-generation V6 producing 200 horsepower as well as is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.

Tidy exterior features include milled-aluminum B-pillars (visible through gray-tinted glass), electronic door releases set into the side-window glass plus a clamshell rear hatch supported by electronic dampers.

Within, much of the car is covered with a semi-suede material, as well as the race-car-like square-bottom steering wheel. The shifter for the automatic is in the form of a computer mouse, which flips up to expose the electronic starter button. Even though the interior’s major controls are fly-by-wire, Kia says in actual operation they feel traditional.

Schreyer said the somewhat strange-to-say Kia Kee is named as such because “Kee refers to the English word ‘key’ as the coupe embodies design elements which will become essential to the future ‘look’ of Kia vehicles.” He also added that the coupe “represents the ‘key’ which will open the door to success for our brand…”

Today’s Fashion Blog: How to Determine the Right Pant Length

21 08 2008

When we were younger or shall I say, when we were children the length of our pants rarely matter. However, things change inevitably when we reach manhood and wearing pants the right way becomes one of our primary concerns. One of the most important aspects of determining whether your pants are right for you is how it fits and more importantly, its length. The length or break can actually make or break your fashion style for the day and to avoid looking like a jerk with an extremely long or short pants break, read on.

What is a break?

The break is basically where your pants end up on your shoes and because of it a crease is created in front of your leg. A good break is a gauge of how long or how short your pants are and aside from that, it is also visually appealing. Short pants will not get you anywhere unless if you’re Michael Jackson whereas a long one will still cause you to fold its bottom several times.

The Medium Break

The first type of pant break is the medium break and it is the most common type used by people. The medium break is preferred by the buttoned-up professional who likes to dress conservatively. Moreover, this kind of break allows you to have a slick looking crease in front of your pants. The medium break is classic and that means it will never go old and out of style although this is best for men with average height. This is because men with the average-height have average legs and that means the medium break allows them to still look ok. Lastly, the medium break is not very versatile although it certainly looks formal that most business people want.

The Full Break

The medium break is obviously conservative and controlled but if you’re someone who doesn’t like looking like any average Joe, then the full break is definitely for you. The full break gives your pants a deep crease at the bottom and it is widely rendered as the most preferred break these days. If the short break is rather a bit restrained, the full break allows you to experiment with other clothes other than a suit. Aside from that, if you’re tall, the full break allows you to have the extra length that a full break can provide. Overall, if you’re a professional who likes pushing boundaries, the full break gives you the versatility that you are looking for.

The Short Break

If you’re always a trendy guy, the short break is a good choice although there is very little or no break at all when you use this. Because of that, the short break has to be exact in length because it can easily become a fashion disaster if you’re not very careful. The short break looks really good although if you have a bloated abdomen and torso, this one is something that you shouldn’t try. The short break also prevents the bottom of your pants from getting any dirt because its length is just enough for your whole leg. Another caution that should be remembered when using the short break is that it exposes some of your legs when you sit down because of its limited length. The good thing though is that it’s even more fashionable and versatile than the full break and that’s one great thing if you’re a fashion rat.

Overall, nobody wants to look like a jerk because of pants that are either too long or too short. Make a good choice on what kind of break that you want and be sure that it fits your personality and body type.

21 Movie: Facts and Myths

20 08 2008

My friend and I at autopartswarehouse.com really loved the movie 21 and we can’t get over at it. I read about facts and myths regarding the movie 21 and I was shocked when I found out that the real-life versions of “Ben”, “Micky”, and “Fisher” are Asian, but were made white for the movie. It seems that Hollywood can’t fade an Asian as the hero, not to mention the supporting characters. (Yes, two of the players in the movie are Asian — the two with the smallest roles.)

However, in the book, Kevin Lewis was identified as half Chinese, and Fisher was identified as half Asian as well.

There’s a lot of buzz on the net about the Asian whitewashing, with some folks calling for a boycott. But it’s worth pointing out that neither John Chang nor Jeffrey Ma themselves really care about this issue. John Chang says, “Being played by a 2-time Oscar winner isn’t exactly an insult.” and Jeff Ma says, “For me it wasn’t a big deal, because for about three years people had been asking me who I wanted to play me in a movie and I never was saying like ‘John Cho’ or ‘Chow Yun-Fat’ or ‘Jackie Chan’…”

By the way, the players’ Asian heritage supposedly wasn’t exactly a coincidence. According to the book, Ma was recruited into the team in part because of his Asian looks, which used to be a boon for card-counting, since casino staff expect card counters to be white (perhaps the same way that people expect the lead of a movie to be white).

Incidentally, some people claim that Micky Rosa is a composite of John Chang and Mr. M.(J. P. Massar, who is not Asian). While that may be partially true, I believe that Rosa is mostly John Chang, since Chang used the name Micky Rosa when playing in the World Series of Blackjack.

Here’s the Who’s Who of the book and the movie:
