How to Get Rid of Beer Bellies

12 08 2008

In the Western world, no liquor is as familiar and can be easily bought as beer. Without a doubt, beer drinking is no longer relegated in the Western world because almost every corner in the world has this alcoholic beverage. The thing is there’s this pervading belief that the more you drink beer, the bigger your beer belly gets. But is there really truth behind this assumption?

The Correlation

There is a correlation between drinking too much beer and your expanding waistline. One bottle of beer contains around 140 calories although that does not necessarily result to a big beer belly unless you chug down volumes of it everyday. The fact is the calories that you consume should have a corresponding way of disposing it and that can be done by burning it through exercising. So even if you don’t consume beer but still taking in too much calories than what you can actually burn, expect your midsection to increase in size.

A Deeper Look into the Belly

When you reach the age of 35, your body’s metabolism starts to slow down and because of that you’ll be having a more difficult time of keeping your figure trim and perfect. The thing is men store extra fat around the waist in contrast to women who keep their fat in their hips, buttocks, and thighs. The concentration of fat in men’s bellies may also have something to do with human evolution. Our bodies are still built just like our ancestors that can withstand not eating for several days while still being able to do intense physical activities at the same time. Because of that, whatever extra calories that our bodies have will be stored in our bellies so that during times when food is scarce, there’s a place where energy can be obtained. Nowadays, food is readily available anywhere and since our physical activities have been greatly reduced, our body wasn’t able to compensate and the result became bigger bellies and a sedentary lifestyle.

The Risks

Belly fat is definitely a health risk that has a potential to give you lots of trouble in the future. People with big bellies can end up developing insulin resistance, diabetes, high-blood pressure, heart disease, and high cholesterol. So how do you know when your belly becomes too big for comfort? Most doctors agree that if your waist reaches 40 inches and above, there’s a big chance that you need to decrease its size through exercising.

How to Remove it

Most people, especially men take such a long time before realizing that they have accumulated so much fat than what is prescribed, and that is quite dangerous. Aside from that, belly fat is rather difficult to remove so you need to be a little bit more disciplined and motivated to get it off your body. The first thing that you should do is lower your consumption of beer and start sweating it off inside the gym. If you can play a game that can exercise almost all of your muscles then that would be fine. Do that for five times a week for 30 minutes and for sure, you’ll see the results in a month. You can’t also rely on spot training because it will never work. No matter how many sit-ups you do a day, your muscles will strengthen but you’ll never be able to see it because they’re just covered in so much fat.

Overall, it’s always important to take care of your health and that means you should be able to exercise regularly and avoid foods that are high in calories and cholesterol.
