Not every great car would have to come from the big boys of the automotive industry. In fact, some of the best cars come from obscure and unknown shops somewhere in Europe and the United States. One such car that comes to mind is the classic supercar called the 1993 Isdera Commendatore. The car seems to be a phantom for decades because very few photos of it exist and only one prototype was manufactured. Essentially, the Isdera is a small workshop that is based in Germany and although it’s far from being Bugatti or Lamborghini, it has made significant albeit sporadic contributions to the car making world. Going back to the car, the 1993 Isdera Commendatore 112i is the last but certainly not the least product of Isdera founder and owner Eberhard Schulz. It was released in 1993 and each unit costs around 450000 USD during that time. Unfortunately, the company went bankrupt after it was released, and only one prototype was manufactured by Schulz and his sons.

The Car
The 1993 Isdera Commendatore 112i is basically weighs 1500 kg. and it can accelerate from 0-60 mph in merely 4.7 seconds. Also when it comes to its top speed, this car can go as fast as 213 mph. Furthermore, the car has a maximum horsepower that is pegged around 408 horsepower that it derives from its 6.0 liter V12 engine. The 1993 Isdera Commendatore 112i is a car that had exceptional technology that was unseen in cars during that time. Because of that, the company had to spend more than 4 million Euros to develop that kind of technology. The car had two-sets of gull-wing doors, an electronic chassis that goes up and down depending on the speed, and an automatic air brake. The thing about this car is that it has Mercedes written all over its hood although its looks can be compared to that of a Porsche. Basically, the car can be compared to the Porsche 917 because of its long rear overhang and tail.

The Ebehard Schulz Story
Eberhard Schulz was a master auto maker who knew his job very well and he was responsible for guiding the production of the Mercedes-Benz prototypes that instigated the C111 concept. Basically, the C111 concept that was introduced utilized all sorts of technology that hasn’t been seen before and it certainly had a lot of promise during its inception. However, despite of the promise of the C111, the Mercedes Benz management decided to pull the trigger and stop its production. Because of this, Schulz chose to start his own company thus the Isdera was born. By 1984, Schulz released his company’s first model and that happens to be the Imperator 108i. The company was reportedly able to manufacture 30 Imperator 108i cars.
The 1993 Isdera Commendatore 112i Today
As mentioned earlier, the 1993 Isdera Commendatore 112i didn’t proceed to large-scale production but it would have been a great sight today especially with its impressive gull wings. The sole prototype has been driven to 3000 miles and in 2005 it was sold for as much as 3 million dollars although no one bought the car. Right now, the 1993 Isdera Commendatore 112i is located in Berne, Switzerland after a new company took over the Isdera.

The Isdera Name
The 1993 Isdera Commendatore 112i was the last car that the Schulz’s had a hand on although the latest car that the company launched was the Silver Arrow C112i that was very similar to the Commendatore in many aspects.
