The racing legend Ford GT40 inspired what must be one of America’s most recent sport car, the Ford GT. Historically speaking, the Ford GT40 is Ford’s answer to Ferrari that dominated the top racing spectacles in the world. The Ford GT40 was Mr. Ford’s reply way back in the 60’s to the Italian car-making giant. It did not only compete against Ferrari, it also won some of the prestigious tournaments like the 24 Hour de Le Mans in 67,68, and 69. During that time it was huge, because Ford wasn’t known as a race car at all. Now, let’s take a look at the Ford GT and see whether this new version is as good as its predecessor.
The Car
Ford Company has decided to bring back the legend and improve the parts that made it the top dog in auto racing. The car has a 5.4 liter V8 engine that is capable of producing as much as 550 horsepower. Aside from that, it has an extremely rigid chassis that can withstand the high-performance demands of this super ride. When it comes to acceleration, the Ford GT is top of the line. It can sprint to 60 miles in well over 3.5 seconds and it has a top speed of 178 mph. The car also has forged aluminum to make it tough as nails. Aside from that, you’ll feel that you will be brought back in time, because Ford engineers kept the same lines of the original Ford GT40.
Once you sit down, you will suddenly feel how similar this car is to its predecessor from the 60s. The Ford GT uses a wide gauge, a shift knob made of metal, and toggle switches for that old, throwback look. The fact is, the Ford GT looks somewhat similar to the Ford GT40, while being able to modernize its controls and performance.
The Practicality
An exotic car like the Ford GT is rarely is not practical and if you can afford this, I don’t think practicality is even an issue at all. However, for the sake of arguing, let’s see how well this car will score when it comes to practicality. When it comes to fuel economy, you don’t have to use drastic measures of hypermiling in order to extend your fuel. The Ford GT has a 13 mpg in the city and 21 mpg in the highway. Now don’t fret just yet, for an exotic car that can reach 60 miles under five seconds, those numbers are decent. Compared to other exotic cars, the Ford GT is the best when it comes to fuel economy.
On a different note, if you’re wondering how to maintain this car, then you won’t have any problems at all. Unlike other exotic cars that needed to be shipped, there are perhaps more Ford outlets out there than 7-11 stores. You won’t have to make expensive shipping, because legitimate Ford dealers are virtually everywhere.
The Ford GT is already a solid choice in its own right. However, just like most if not all exotic cars, this one lacks the space that can let you bring extra stuff with you. It only has a grand total of two cubic feet of cargo space, which is not a lot. Lastly, compared to a Lamborghini or a Bugatti, the Ford GT is already one heckuva bargain at 150,000 USD. Basically, the car is a solid choice for an everyday car, although it has what it has everything to be on the race track.
Conclusion
Overall, the Ford GT is a great exotic car that will give you the edge that you need without even resorting for more expensive European rides out there. It’s great when it comes to performance and for an exotic ride, it has enough practical points to impress even the not-so-hardcore fans.
