10.Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts

This place was perfect for this Spielberg film, because even 12 miles away from the shore; it was only 30 feet deep. Because of that, it’s a lot easier for the mechanical shark to work. Right after the movie was released, the visitors to Martha’s Vineyard increased drastically.

9. Monroeville Mall, Monroeville, Pennsylvania

Consumer culture was attacked this George Romero’s classic called Dawn of the Dead. What better way to do it by doing it inside the Monroeville Mall in Pennsylvania. The fact is: Romero shot the whole film right after the mall closed, at around 10 in the evening. The actors and actresses definitely felt like zombies because of the graveyard shift that the shooting had. So there you go, if you want a mall where the dead had been, the Monroeville is definitely it.

The exorcist is arguably one of the scariest films that is filmed with had a child for the leading role. The truth is, there had been several paranormal incidents that occurred when the filming was taking place, which prompted the production crew to get a real priest to bless the set. This house was merely used because of its exteriors and boy did it do its job quite well.

If you happen to have watched this film, this was the place that was used as Crystal Lake where Pamela killed several people in cold-blooded fashion. This is the place wherein one of the most ghastly killing sprees happened in film. However, just like Martha’s Vineyard; this quiet place in Northern New Jersey still attracts kids and adults in droves as a topnotch camping area.

If you’re into real-life horror locales, then this sleepy house in Kansas will surely get your hair standing up in no time. This is actually the place where Perrry Smith and Richard Hickock murdered an entire family hoping to get millions, but ending up with only 40 dollars in their pockets. Both murderers were killed via hanging and this house is still for sale and up for grabs.

5.1000 Mission Street, South Pasadena, California

John Carpenter’s masterpiece is sure to make you think a million times, before setting your foot inside this building. That’s because this is where the film Halloween was shot and where the grisly killings happened in the movie. Today, this place in 1000 Mission Street serves as an office for a chiropractor.

4.4267 Roxbury St, Simi Valley, California

If there’s any film that is as scary as it was off screen, then it could Poltergeist, which was shot in 4267 Roxbury St. There had been several deaths to the cast of the film and these were Dominique Dunn (murdered by a jealous ex-boyfriend), Heather O’Rourke (died of an acute case of sepsis at the age of 12 in 1988), and Julian Kane (stomach cancer in 1985). However, the same family that allowed the whole production crew to use it 26 years ago, is still living in this place.

If Rosemary’s Baby isn’t enough to freak you out, then I don’t know what will. This building is different from other locales in this list because it happens to be one of the most famous in New York. This is the place where Satan impregnates the leading female character and where the whole story basically revolves. The Dakota is so historical that the legendary John Lennon lived here and where he was eventually shot to death.

Stephen King used this hotel as his inspiration when he wrote this thriller masterpiece, he Shining. The hotel is somewhat considered to be haunted because of a ghost named Miss Wilson who roams all around the place at night. Also, Miss Wilson stays at room 217, where Stephen King stayed when he was writing the book. However, not everything is scary when it comes to this hotel, because this was also used for the shooting of Dumb and Dumber.

This is the place where Ronald De Feo Jr., killed his entire family before being captured by the authorities on the night of November 13, 1974. This event has been the subject of both literature and media for decades, especially after the Lutz family was claimed to have been terrorized by supernatural elements. The Lutz family moved out after 28 days and to this day, this place is considered the most haunted place in the United States.
